Very busy

I’ve been away from the blog because I’ve been very busy. I went finally to Portugal. We stayed there for one week and it was very tiring but rewarding as well. We were already missing our family, friends, sun and specially the FOOD. I need to explain why, otherwise I will get complainsJ! Family and friends we see from time to time on the fabulous Skype. Sun.......before we went to Portugal we had 2 summery weeks in here and incredibly better weather than what we had this time it Portugal (only 2 days of sun and reasonable temperature), which was very windy and cloudy. So.....it’s why the food is what we miss more. Not just Portuguese food but some variety as well. We ate so much during these week that unfortunately I added 2kg to my weight. I need to compensate now!!

Before I went to Portugal I wanted to make some of my things to give to some special friends. Thst is one of the reasons why I was so busy. I made some Easter bags with a fabric egg and some home baked biscuits inside. Because I didn’t have time to do as much as I would like, I had to make quicker things for the rest, so I decided to do some little hearts to attach to the biscuits bag and that can be used as a key holders. All the ideas I took from my favourite brand “Tilda”. The book is “Crafting Sprintime gifts”. Here are some photos of all my work. I’m very proud because this is just my second sewing work. From now one I don’t have more excuses to do any mistake. ;)

Tenho andado um pouco afastada do blog porque tenho andado bastante ocupada. Fomos finalmente a Portugal. Ficamos por lá cerca de 1 semana e posso dizer que foi bastante cansativo mas compensador. Já tínhamos muitas saudades da família, dos amigos, do sol e especialmente da COMIDA. Antes que alguém fique ofendido passo a explicar! Amigos e família, graças ao fabuloso Skype, vamos vendo tempos a tempos. O sol......antes de irmos para Portugal vivenciámos 2 semanas de Verão por estes lados. O tempo esteve até melhor do que o que encontrámos em Portugal quando lá chegámos. Apenas tivémos 2 dias de sol e com temperaturas razoáveis, o resto foi passado com nuvens, vento e algum frio. Eis as razões pelas quais a comida era o que mais tínhamos saudade. Não apenas pela comida Portuguesa mas também pela variedade. Comemos tanto durante essa semana que voltei com mais 2kg em cima. Agora vou ter que compensar!!

Antes de irmos para Portugal eu quis fazer algumas das minhas coisinhas para dar a uns amigos especiais. Uma das razões pelas quais andei tão ocupada. Fiz uns saquinhos da Páscoa com um ovo de tecido e algumas bolachinhas feitas por mim também, dentro dos saquinhos. Como nao tive tempo de fazer para todas as pessoas que gostaria, tive que optar por fazer outra coisa que fosse mais rápida. Fiz, entao, uns coraçõezinhos para anexar aos saquinhos das bolachas e que também podem ser usados como porta chaves. Todas as ideias foram tiradas da minha marca favorita, a “Tilda”. O livro é “Crafting Springtime gifts”. Aqui estão algumas fotos desse meu “intenso” trabalho. Estou tão orgulhosa, pois este é apenas o meu segundo trabalho de costura. Daqui para a frente deixo de ter desculpas em qualquer erro ;).

Lately I’ve been busy because we bought a new television and I’ve been looking in the magazines and books for some ideas for the new TV stand. It’s amazing!!!!!! No one talk about televisions, no one shows televisions in home magazines and even in books. I bought loads of books to get some ideas and.......nothing. But at least now I have beautiful books to look at any time I want ;) It’s so good!

Ultimamente tenho andado ocupada porque comprámos uma televisão e tenho passado um grande tempo a olhar para revistas e livros para tirar allgumas ideias para o móvel da televisão. É impressionante!!! Ninguém fala ou mostra televisões em revistas ou livros. Comprei imensos livros para tirar ideias e......nada. Ao menos fiquei com uns quantos livros lindos de desfolhar a qualquer altura ;) Sabe sempre bem!

All the TV stands that are in the shops don’t match with what we need. I have in my mind a specific style that doesn’t match with audio and video stuff, so you can’t find it in shops and my husband needs loads of space for all those kind of things because they need space around to breath, need to be in a central position and bla, bla, bla.....So we have decided to get something custom made. Here is my idea.

Todos os móveis de televisão que se encontram nas lojas não satisfazem as nossas necessidades. Eu tenho em mente um estilo específico que nao combina com qualquer coisa relacionada com tecnologias e o meu marido precisa de um móvel que tenha muito espaço para todos os aparelhos que tem e mais um pouquinho, pois os aparelhos precisam de respirar. Além disso ainda precisam de estar numa posição específica e blá, blá, blá......Então, por tudo isso, resolvemos desenhar o nosso próprio móvel e mandar fazer. Aqui está a minha ideia.

One more reason for my busy time is deciding our next holidays. Any suggestions? I would like to have beach and sun.......and beach and sun......

Outra coisa que me tem ocupado o tempo é decidir as nossas próximas ferias. Alguma sugestão? Eu gostava de ter praia e sol....e praia e sol.....

My first bear

It’s been a long time already. I’ve been very busy between enjoying the VERY good weather in England (maybe the only time this year ;) ), working at the Hospital, sorting out theproblems between my cats, and my new adorable hobby. Today I’m going to show you my first ever job with the sewing machine. One afternoon I went to my friend Federica’s house with the sewing machine and the instructions book just to try using it while she was doing her crafts. She gave me some exercises like lines, curves......and the last thing she gave me had the shape of a bear. The purpose was just to learn how to control the machine. I was using an awful thread colour and a bad quality fabric. in In a couple of hours, without me and Federica knowing neither planning, I had my first bear done. Isn’t it very, very cute for my first time?

Já lá vai algum tempo desde o último post! Tenho andado muito ocupada entre aproveitar o MUITO bom tempo em Inglaterra (talvez o único deste ano ;) ), trabalhar no Hospital, resolver problemas entre os meus gatos, e o meu mais recente hobby. Hoje vou mostrar-vos o meu primeiríssimo trabalho com a máquina de costura. Fui passar uma tarde a casa da minha amiga Federica com a máquina de costura e o livro de instruções para fazer umas experiências enquanto ela fazia os seus trabalhinhos. Ela começou por me dar alguns exercícios para aprender a controlar a máquina, umas linhas, umas curvas....e o último exercício foi costurar o formato de um urso. Como eram só experiências estava a usar uma linha de cor horrorosa e um tecido de má qualidade. Sem nos apercebermos nem planearmos, em pouco tempo tinha à minha frente o meu primeiro urso completamente acabado . Não ficou tão fofinho tendo em conta as circunstancias?

Very late!

I know that it’s very late but I only managed to finish this last week. It’s the already mentioned problem of cross stitch and this time I had to do the frame too with the problem of no experience with the sewing machine. But......finally it’s finished and it’s a Chirstmas gift for my grandmother-in-law, which isn’t a problem because the last time I went to Portugal was in October. I can always say that the gift was ready since December! ;) Now I have to make her birthday gift because her birthday was 2 weeks ago, but this time I have to be quicker!

Eu sei que já está um pouco fora de época, mas só consegui acabar a semana passada. Lá está o problema já referido do ponto cruz e além disso, para agravar a situação, ainda tive que fazer a moldura com a minha falta de experiência na máquina de costura. Mas.....finalmente acabei e é um presente de Natal para a avó do meu marido o que acaba por nao ser um problema visto que a última vez que estive em Portugal foi em Outubro. Posso sempre dizer que o presente já estava pronto desde Dezembro! ;) Agora tenho que me apressar a fazer o seu presente de aniversário, pois fez anos no início do mês!

Missing home!

It’s already 5 months away from home (and we still have 1 and a half month to go). We are really missing it! The way we found to feel better was doing from time to time a traditional Portuguese dish with the few ingredients that we can find in the Portuguese shop in Swindon. This time it was a very traditional and well known salt cod with chick peas. Doesn’t it look delicious? Or is just my feelings that make it so delicious? Oh! And a homemade Portuguese bread, made by me!

Já lá vão 5 meses longe de casa (e ainda temos mais 1 e meio pela frente). As saudades começam a apertar! Uma forma que encontrámos para tentar minimizar as saudades foi fazer um pratinho português de vez enquanto com os poucos ingredientes que conseguimos encontrar por aqui na loja portuguesa de Swindon. Desta vez foi um bacalhauzinho com grão. Está ou nao está convidativo? Ou são as saudades que já são demasiado grandes? Ah! E pãozinho português caseiro feito por mim!

Crafts

The whole thing started when, on the unit where I work, a baby’s mum with whom I had built a good relationship, showed me her cross-stitch works and challenged me to try it too. That made me think, with nostalgia, about my childhood when I had my first contact with cross-stitch together with my cousin.

I accepted the challenge and bought my first cross-stitch magazine. I then tried the kit that came in it....

Tudo começou quando, no meu serviço, a mãe de um bébé com quem estabeleci uma boa relação, me mostrou os seus trabalhos em ponto cruz e me desafiou a experimentar. Lembrei-me, com nostalgia, dos tempos de miúda, quando com a minha prima tive o primeiro contacto com o ponto cruz.

Aceitei o desafio e comprei a minha primeira revista de ponto cruz e experimentei o kit que lá vinha.

After that I became addicted. It’s an excellent way to relax. So, I’ve started to make some things to offer:

Some of these gifts were done in my friend’s house, Federica, while she was doing her own crafts. Watching her doing such beautiful things I wanted to try some new things myself, especially because cross-stitching is very relaxing. But sometimes makes me nervous because I never reach the end. It takes some time to finish something!

As my new interest required new and different material, my lovely husband started the process!! By Christmas he offered me a beautiful and good sewing machine....

Parte destes trabalhos foram feitos em casa da minha amiga Federica enquanto ela fazia os seus próprios trabalhos manuais. Com isso fiquei cheia de vontade de experimentar coisas novas, até porque o ponto cruz é muito relaxante por um lado mas por outro dá uns certos nervos por nunca mais vermos o resultado final. Leva muito tempo a terminar!

Como este meu novo interesse em coisas novas exigia mais e diferente material, o meu maridinho encarregou-se de começar o processo. Ofereceu-me como prenda de Natal.....

I took charge of the rest. I have created a small space in my office for all the craft stuff that I’ve already bought.

Do resto encarreguei-me eu. Arranjar um cantinho para arrumar todo o material que fui arranjado.

Now I just need to throw myself completely into it.

Agora só falta atirar-me de cabeça.

Morning in the garden

Yesterday it was sunny in the morning, so I decided to do something that was pending since last October. Prune my raspberry plant that I had planted last year. As I was touching it I dug the soil (as my mum taught me last summer), fed her and tidied it up by moving the bamboo canes to a better position. Now it is ready for the new season. I just need to cover with a nest as soon as the fruits come out to protect them from the birds.

Ontem o dia comecou solarengo. Aproveitei para fazer algo que estava pendente desde Outubro. Pudar a planta da framboesa que plantei no ano passado. E já que que lhe estava a mexer, remexi a terra (como a minha mãe me ensinou no verão passado), alimentei-a e reposicionei as estacas que estavam uma confusao. Agora está prontinha para a nova estaçao, só falta cobrir com uma rede assim que os frutos começarem a crescer, para proteger dos pássaros.
